Celebrating

On 22nd April (2018) it was exactly 120 years since Robert Reschid said Shahada (became a Muslim.) We were honoured that the British Muslim Heritage Centre in Manchester supported us to put on a celebration event.  Over one hundred people booked tickets and we had a fantastic day, chatting with people and telling them about what we intend to do with this fascinating story.

Comments/Thoughts

As part of our ongoing work, we would love to hear from the following groups of people;

a) Experts/ Historians etc. – Whether an expert on Victorian Islam, Victorian social / religious history, Ottoman Islam or a bit of a buff on local history during the period of RR’s life (1828-1918) in Tameside, Yorkshire, Manchester and Liverpool or on the growth of British Islam and reversion in general, we would be absolutely delighted to hear from you.

b) Community/ churches/ mosques/ local history or writing groups – who would be interested in hosting an event about the Robert Reschid project.  Get in touch and we will see what we can do!

c) Others – If our project inspires you in any way – do feel free to contact us.

d) Buy the Books – ‘His Own Man’ is the historical biography of Robert and ‘Imagining Robert’ is fiction, based on his life and written using scripts and monologues – it can be read aloud or performed by groups too. Both books contain Questions for Reader Groups.

This is all about INCLUSIVE history and artistic expression – and NOT about history as presented ‘top-down’ by those who have the benefits of wealth and formal education.   We are growing a project and a way of working that is born from the grassroots and used by them in order to broker peace and greater understanding between communities.

A Bit About Me

In my part of the world being referred to as a ‘funny lass’ is more about being perceived to be a bit of an oddity, a bit unusual. Not about the humour.
Still, there's nowt wrong with having a bit of a laugh. Eh? Read More…
