About Me

I was born n’ bred in the north of England where, whilst growing up, I heard the phrase; “Eeee, yurra funnylass,” rather often.

I run an international charity. I do things with coffee.

And I write stuff – I’m currently Writer in Residence for Kirklees 2021.

I have just finished reading Mind Games & Ministers and loved every word of it. Loaned it to another Cheshire girl — she is loving it too. Can’t wait for the next Rachel book to come out. Wish you lots of success! Hilde Noble

Thanks so much Hilde! Pleased you enjoyed the read and that you picked up on the ‘border confusion’ of my own background…being Lancashire-born, Cheshire & Derbyshire resident and having finally defected just a few miles to Yorkshire (never mind the African life) certainly lends itself to a sense of divided loyalty..!
Am working on the second in the series now – but I am a fusspot when it comes to getting it just right…

Hi Christina, I have just read your article about the cotton famine and the riots in and around Stalybridge. It may surprise you to know that at the school I attended in Surrey we were taught about the industrial revolution, the cotton famine and the riots. It really started my interest in history and I really wanted to come north to see the old mills etc. Then 10 year later I met and married my husband who lived in Stalybridge, I moved north and my dream came true. After living here a while I researched my family tree, believing they came from Rochdale, but what I actually found is that they lived in Ashton and Stalybridge and were amongst the first people to open woollen and cotton mills, not wonder I had such an affinity with that part of our history.
I enjoyed reading your article thank you.

That’s an astonishing thing to hear! I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised in a way… as often the history of one (overlooked) place is actually treasured by others in a far-flung land (like Surrey!) I’m so pleased that you took the time to tell me this. And I’m even more chuffed that you’re now a ‘local’. What a terrific story! The Robert Reschid Stanley book (His Own Man) is actually at 99p for the next few days if you care to do eBooks – and there is so much in there on Victorian S/B and Ashton. You might note some family names. Take care and thanks so much for letting me know 🙂 x

A Bit About Me

In my part of the world being referred to as a ‘funny lass’ is more about being perceived to be a bit of an oddity, a bit unusual. Not about the humour.
Still, there's nowt wrong with having a bit of a laugh. Eh? Read More…
